Gov. Chris Christie denies sending the memo about David Wildstein
by Nathan'ette Burdine: February 24, 2014

According to Politico , Gov. Chris Christie didn’t know about the the memo that accuses former Port Authority Employee David Wildstein of “doing and saying anything” to protect himself.

Politico reported that Christie’s aides didn’t inform him about the memo and decided to send it via email to Christie supporters.

The memo was sent two days after Wildstein’s lawyer, Alan Zegas, sent a letter out accusing Christie of knowing more than he was telling about the George Washington Bridge scandal.

During an appearance on NJ 101.5, Governor Christie stated that he had “no” knowledge about the events leading to the closing of four lanes on the George Washington Bridge for four days from September 9, 2013, to September 13, 2013.

Christie said, “Did I authorize it, did I know about it, did I approve it, did I have any knowledge of it before hand? The answer is still the same, it’s unequivocally no.”

The investigation into Governor Christie’s role in the George Washington Bridge scandal began in November 2013.

And in January 2014, the New Jersey Assembly formed a new investigative committee and hired former Federal Prosecutor Reid Schar to advise the committee during the investigation.

David Wildstein, former Campaign Manager Bill Stipien, and former Deputy Chief of Staff Bridget Ann Kelly have been subpoenaed by the New Jersey Assembly Transportation, Public Works and Independent Authorities Committee and the U.S. Attorney’s office.

During his appearance on NJ 101.5, Christie also confirmed that the U.S. Attorney’s office has subpoenaed his administration and that he will comply with the subpoena and provide “any” documents the U.S. attorney needs.

Wildstein, Stipien, and Kelly have invoked their Fifth Amendment rights in the investigation involving the New Jersey Assembly Transportation, Public Works and Independent Authorities Committee.

Wildstein has stated that he will produce more documents if he is given immunity.  The New Jersey Assembly Transportation, Public Works and Independent Authorities Committee has denied Wildstein’s request.
